Capistrano Beach is one of Dana Point’s favorite neighborhoods, and can be a little bit of a “secret” due to its location south of Doheny State Beach between Dana Point Harbor and San Juan Capistrano. Most of the homes in “Capo Beach” are medium-sized family residences built between 1940 and 1969. You will also find condominiums and a few newer beach/executive homes built more recently.
Beach Road is the most-desirable portion of Capo Beach, located on the sand west of Pacific Coast Highway. The gated community includes luxury homes which are literally on the sand. It is also the only beachfront location in Southern California where owners actually own their property on the sand up to the high tide mark. Beach Road is also the location where Hobie Alter designed the Hobie Cat catamaran. The historic Hobie shop is located in downtown Dana Point. Beach Road’s gated community includes a 24-hour guard, basketball court, and direct beach access all year round.
Capo Beach also includes neighborhoods located on the bluff above Capistrano Beach. Beach Road is by no means the only part of Capo Beach offering exclusive homes and estates. You will find custom, executive, and beach-adjacent estates on Capistrano Bluffs and Dana Bluffs. Other desirable neighborhoods include the Marbella Racquet Club, Palisades, Hampton Hill, and Capistrano Heights. Schools are excellent, with students able to attend the highly-ranked Capistrano Unified School District. Although independent for a number of years, Capo Beach officially joined the city of Dana Point in 1989.
You will find world-class homes on Beach Road, including 6,000 square foot beachfront estates designed by noted architects. Capistrano Beach is considered one of the last non-commercial stretches of Southern California beachfront community. It has a laid-back, down-to-earth vibe, legendary surfing, and local hangouts serving great Mexican food and Hawaiian-inspired specialties.
