Carbon Canyon and Carbon Mesa overlook Carbon Beach — the famous Billionaires Beach — and include some of the most luxurious and distinctive view homes in east Malibu. Both roads run through the Santa Monica mountains backcountry which extends far into the hills and includes some breathtaking vistas of the Pacific and Catalina Island. Other views may include the Santa Monica Bay, city lights, and the Palos Verdes Peninsula.
One of the best-known Carbon Canyon homes is the 11,622 square foot mansion owned by music producer David Foster and his former wife Yolanda Hadid, which was seen on many episodes of “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.”
Carbon Mesa homes can be accessed only from Carbon Canyon Road, which travels inland from Pacific Coast Highway at the eastern side of Carbon Beach. Similar to homes on Carbon Canyon Road, Carbon Mesa residences are architecturally unique and frequently feature swimming pools, tennis courts, and extensively landscaped properties.
More than 20 miles of Malibu coastline includes famous beaches and surfing, from Zuma to Topanga and Point Dume. Malibu Surfrider Beach is the first World Surfing Reserve. Carbon Canyon provides a more remote and private atmosphere than Malibu’s city-adjacent neighbourhoods. Restaurants include Geoffrey’s, noted for excellent brunches, and Nobu Japanese cuisine. Malibu’s shopping centres are low-key and primarily spread along the Pacific Coast Highway, but it’s frequently possible to see one of the community’s many celebrity residents shopping or enjoying a gelato from Grom or a sandwich from the Malibu Kitchen and General Store.
