Carbon Mesa overlooks Carbon Beach and may be reached only by Carbon Canyon Road traveling inland from the Pacific Coast Highway. Set in the hills above the beach, homes in Carbon Mesa have extensive, sometimes breathtaking coastal views from Santa Monica to Catalina Island. Properties on Carbon Mesa are widely-spaced and have mature landscaping which offers seclusion and privacy.

Carbon Mesa Road ends at a cul-de-sac. The neighborhood has always had celebrity residents, including former residents such as Sean Penn and Madonna. Lots on the Mesa are large, ranging from two and three-acre parcels to 7 acres and larger. Architecturally unique estates are the norm, with amenities ranging from lighted tennis courts to outdoor kitchens complete with pizza ovens. Many homes may have rights to private beach and tennis club access, including the Malibu La Costa Beach Club.

Architectural styles vary among the estate homes scattered along the Malibu hillside. “Old World” estates with stonework may be located along the winding hillside road beside modern steel and glass homes, Mediterranean villas, and Cape Cod-inspired wood frame mansions. Depending on the location, Carbon Mesa homeowners association fees are $600.00 a month or $5,000 a year.

Living on Carbon Mesa, owners may choose from a variety of estate homes with amenities as unique as their owners and builders. From equestrian properties to multi-level gated estates able to accommodate many guests in style, Carbon Mesa is one of Malibu’s most exclusive and sought-after neighborhoods. Carbon Mesa residences are secluded and private while still offering easy access to the city and coastline. Large lots including significant acreage offer additional opportunities for building and design of ultimate beachside retreats.
