In an already exclusive and sought-after area, The Sand Dune is one of the most desirable locales. Sometimes called the “Malibu Riviera,” The Sand Dune is located on the northwestward-facing portion of Point Dume with approximately 40 homes that overlook Point Dume State Beach. Point Dume’s name dates back to the 1790s when coastal explorer George Vancouver named the point after Fr. Francisco Dumetz, who hosted him at the San Buenaventura Mission.  Homes in the Sand Dune area are primarily estate homes with properties ranging from $5 million to $40 million and above. Home styles include Balinese-inspired estates, Cape Cod mansions, and Mediterranean villas.
Homes on the Sand Dune’s bluff have some of the world’s best views of migrating grey whales from December to April each year. Each of the Sand Dune neighbourhood homes will have a beach key offering access to Little Dume Beach and overlook Point Dume State Beach. The northwestern-facing location of the neighbourhood offers sweeping views of the Pacific and Catalina Island.
You may find custom estate homes with up to an acre of property and amenities including screening rooms, wine cellars, multiple fireplaces, jacuzzis, infinity pools, and saunas. The majority of properties have been developed in more recent years, although there may be some original California Ranch homes available on the inland side of the neighbourhood. Living on Point Dume has a rural, isolated feeling although no home is located more than a few minutes from Pacific Coast Highway. There are no stop signs or lights on the peninsula and no sidewalks. People ride horses, walk, or drive golf carts to get around.
Point Dume has its own shopping centre, highly-rated Marine Science Elementary School, and casual and more formal restaurants, including The Sunset. The air is pristine and the environmental quality unparalleled in one of the most exclusive, desirable, and sought-after neighbourhoods of Malibu‘s many gem-like neighbourhoods and beaches.
