Marina Del Rey’s Silver Strand is only two blocks wide and 10 blocks long and has its own channel similar to nearby Venice’s. Many homes in the Silver Strand face either the Pacific Ocean or the Ballona Lagoon, home to numerous seabirds and other wildlife. The Lighthouse footbridge built by Venice founder Abbot Kinney connects the Strand with the beach along Venice’s peninsula.

Many professionals have chosen to live in an exclusive home in the Silver Strand to experience a peaceful, traffic-free beachside lifestyle. The homes are generally large and have architectural styles as diverse as their owners and builders. There is nothing “cookie-cutter” about the Silver Strand. One Silver Strand homeowner said, “This is the last place other than Malibu where you can have a large single-family home and still walk to the beach.” The Silver Strand is still close to the city, including Santa Monica and MDR nightlife, shopping and restaurants.

The Silver Strand has its own homeowner’s association which provides basic amenities and security services to the neighborhood. The association dates back to the very beginning of the Silver Strand development in 1979 when the original group of owners raised funds for street lights, sewers, and street paving. Dues for the association vary and are set by its board of directors annually. They are payable in two installments each year.

Homes in the Silver Strand are all unique, custom, estate homes which have been built between the late 1970s and mid-2000s. They are situated on walk streets which are referred to as courts or malls. The very last of twelve courts/malls is Topsail Court, which is technically not a part of the Silver Strand, but which is also located off Via Dolce and Via Marina. You will find Cape Cod-style three-story estate homes beside Mediterranean and Tuscan-inspired villas. Around the corner across a landscaped pedestrian mall, you will find a contemporary architectural masterpiece. Most Silver Strand homes have been upgraded with the latest amenities from private theaters, garage-access elevators, wine cellars, and chef’s kitchens. The Silver Strand is a highly-desirable enclave with a unique combination of slow-paced, quiet beachside living and quick access to the City and urban destinations.
