Thousand Oaks, California is a rapidly growing community located in southeastern Ventura County northwest of Los Angeles. Nicknamed “T.O.” by residents, it gets is name from the abundance of beautiful oak trees that grace its parks and line city streets.

Thousand Oaks is in the most populated portion of Conejo Valley, which also includes Westlake Village, Newbury Park, Oak Park and Agoura Hills. The Ventura County and Los Angeles County lines intersect at the Westlake Village western city limits.

According to the 2010 census, the population of Thousand Oaks was 126,683, and it continues to show robust growth. The population of Thousand Oaks grew 35 percent between 1980 and 1990, making it one of the fastest-growing cities in the nation.

Thousand Oaks was founded in the mid-1950s with an industrial park, some shopping centers and just a few thousand homes. Today, the real estate market is thriving, and the median home price is around $673,000. In 2006, Thousand Oaks was named one of Money magazine’s Best Places to Live.

Golf is popular in Thousand Oaks and is home to the Sherwood Country Club, designed by golf legend Jack Nicklaus. There are a total of 5 private and 13 municipal golf courses in the city. The city also features a range of youth sports options and is the home of the 2004 Little League National Championship team.

There are plenty of outdoor activities to enjoy in Thousand Oaks and at the nearby Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area. Hiking, mountain biking, backpacking, horseback riding and camping are all popular. Nearby Westlake has a 150 acre lake that offers access to premier fishing, boating and sailing. The marine sanctuary Channel Islands National Park features more than 1,000 species of ocean life.
