Monte Verde is a well-established and desirable neighborhood in Valencia that is bounded on the north by Seco Canyon Road, east by Barbacoa Drive and Bouquet Canyon Drive, on the west by Vista Delgado and Vista Encantada Drives, and on the south by Newhall Ranch Road. Like the majority of Valencia, Monte Verde is part of a planned community. Today, Valencia is part of the overall city of Santa Clarita, along with Newhall, Canyon Country, and Saugus. Many of Santa Clarita’s best and newest shopping, dining, and local services areas are located in Valencia.

Most of Monte Verde’s homes were first built as part of a planned development between 1970 and 1978. The majority of Monte Verde’s streets were laid out to get the most benefit out of the local terrain and to provide safe streets for young families. Early development brochures and floor plans feature many illustrations of children playing. The homes are primarily Spanish-influenced modern ranch homes with open floor plans. Home sizes range from small 2 and 3-bedroom single-story cottages to large 4 and 5 bedroom two-story and split-level ranch homes. Monte Verde is part of North Valencia, and the homes don’t have any Mello Roos assessments or homeowner’s association fees.

Many of Monte Verde’s homes both small and large show pride of ownership, with mature, manicured landscaping. You will find pool homes and homes with large yards which are perfect for pets, backyard playgrounds, and outdoor entertaining. Upgraded homes include tile flooring, built-in appliances, copper repiping, and new interior and exterior finishes and materials. Santa Clarita’s schools rank in the top 10 percent in California. While Valencia is known as the “home to Six Flags Magic Mountain,” it is also home to Westfield Valencia Town Center, a large regional shopping center with local and national brands, major anchor stores, and dining and entertainment.

Little-known to outsiders, Santa Clarita is home to many hiking and cycling trails, called the “paseo” system. You can ride, jog, or hike almost anywhere in the area. The Santa Clarita Valley is home to some hidden gems like Placerita Canyon where hikers will find “the Oak of the Golden Dream,” where gold was discovered after a sleeping worker woke under the tree. CalArts is also located in Santa Clarita, a fine art and music institution of higher education which frequently hosts art and music exhibitions and festivals.
