Woods Cove
Some of Laguna Beach’s most spectacular coastal properties are located in Woods Cove, a famed neighborhood which dates back to the late 19th century. Woods Cove was originally a separate village from Laguna Beach called “Arch Beach.” It is separated from the main town of Laguna Beach by Bluebird Canyon and Sleepy Hollow Canyon. Woods Cove still includes some cottages and larger structures dating back to the 1910s, 20s, and 30s built by original pioneer families or as part of development efforts to attract interest from the Hollywood film industry.
The name of Woods Cove changed from “Arch Beach” after Harry Woods bought the land around the cove. Mr. Woods’ name is the reason the cove is called “Woods” with no apostrophe. Artists and actors began to build or renovate cottages in the area in the 1930s, including award-winning performers like Bette Davis, whose former home is still located on the bluff overlooking the cove. Famed film noir “The Postman Always Rings Twice” with Lana Turner was filmed on the beach at Woods Cove in the 1940s.
Woods Cove today includes coastal estates on the bluffs and dramatic beachfront properties with sublime amenities. Some properties may range up to 5,000 and 6,000 square feet with multiple beds and baths. Oceanfront properties enjoy views of Catalina Island and immediate access to one of Southern California’s most picturesque beaches.
