Century City is easily recognizable by the distinctive skyscrapers that fill the community’s 176 acres in Los Angeles’ Westside. However, this wasn’t always the case. The now-bustling neighborhood was actually born on a vacant lot at the 20th Century Fox Studios. It was conceived by its original developers as a “city within a city”, and the first building was completed in 1963. In the years since, the neighborhood has flourished. The developers’ vision succeeded, and Century City is now one of Los Angeles’ most prominent business centers and a vibrant hot spot for dining and entertainment.
Century City is bounded by the city Beverly Hills to the northeast, Westwood to the west, Rancho Park to the southwest, Cheviot Hills to the south and Beverlywood to the southeast. Santa Monica Boulevard runs across the northern border of Century City, and Pico Boulevard runs across the southern border. These major thoroughfares make commuting to and from the neighborhood quite simple, but many of Century City’s residents work within walking distance from their homes.
Century City is an important employment center in Los Angeles. It is home to Fox Studios, Crystal Cruises, John Paul Mitchell Systems, and Houlihan Lokey. It also hosts numerous high-profile law firms mostly focused on the entertainment industry. The Westfield Century City shopping center is one of the most popular shopping destinations in Los Angeles, and the neighborhood is also home to some top hotels, including the InterContinental Los Angeles Century City.
Century City real estate is largely comprised of luxury condos located in modern skyscrapers. This serves as a welcome contrast to the lower-density condo units and single-family homes in the surrounding neighborhoods. From one-bedroom units to magnificent penthouse residences, real estate in Century City appeals to successful business professionals and those seeking a convenient, exclusive urban living. Residents of Century City live in the direct vicinity of some of LA’s trendiest restaurants and entertainment areas. The Hillcrest Country Club and Rancho Park Golf Course are also minutes away. For families, while there is no public schools directly in Century City, there are two top-rated private schools. Beverly Hills High School is also nearby.
