Lido Isle
Tiny, gem-like Lido Isle is often mis-named Lido Island but it is properly called “Isle.” Joined to Newport Beach by a short bridge, Lido Isle is bounded by Via Lido Soud and Via Lido Nord and nestled in Newport Harbor. Incredibly close to the Balboa Peninsula, the Isle has its own elegant, bayside feel.
The Isle is man-made and located completely inside Newport Beach harbor. It was originally owned by one of California’s wealthiest early residents, rail magnate Henry Huntington. When it was initially developed, it became one of the first master-planned communities, intended to provide the atmosphere of a Mediterranean resort: hence the name of Lido Isle and streets named Barcelona, Genoa, and Nice. The majority of Isle homes are built in Mediterranean style.
Homes in the interior of Lido Isle feature rooftop decks offering views of the bay and Newport lights. Homes located on the southern and northern sides of the Isle have private docks and launches as well as views of the bay or city lights.
Lido Isle traditions include an active role in Newport’s Christmas Boat Parade and the Lido Isle Yacht Club. Regarded as “semi-private,” the Community Association’s dues are moderate in comparison to some other Newport Bay and regional private communities. Members may enjoy the Lido Isle Club House, public boat launches, parks for adults, children, and pets, and a private beach. Residents also may use tennis courts and boat storage.
The Isle’s news is reported monthly via the Lido Islander, and a few of the many clubs and associations include tennis clubs for men and women and a junior sailing program.
